Merry Monday Challenge 283!

Good morning to a brand new week and a brand new challenge at Merry Monday Challenge! Leanne is our hostess this week and the challenge is to add a puppy to our Christmas cards. Dave and I rescued a Beagle 3-1/2 years ago and we named him Ruger. I thought it would be neat to add him to the front of my Christmas card. Isn't he handsome?

We believe he was a hunting dog and was left abandoned in the woods. When  Ruger was found by some locals, he had located a dead moose carcass and was trying to feed off of the animal. Poor thing was so skinny and weak when we got him. He weighed 19 pounds and couldn't even climb in our vehicle by himself. Dave gave him a nice bath to clean him up (he was stinky) and he was so weak that he didn't even have the energy to wolf down a good meal. He slowly ate and slowly put some weight on those first few days. We made an appointment with our local vet who got him scheduled a week later and things were looking up by then. He actually came in with a clean bill of health!

Hunting season in Maine starts in the month of October and he was found a week before Christmas so we figured he was out in the woods for at least 10 weeks maybe. The week after he was found, the temperatures plummeted to below zero temps so I don't think he would have survived. We also can't believe he survivied not only the elements, but the coyote's and wolves. He now weighs in at a whooping 52 pounds (a little chunky) and is the best dog ever. Thanks for letting me tell Ruger's story today. A story of survival.

  5. Oh, I love your Christmas card. I'd much rather receive photos of my friend's pets than their children. You should start a trend! Also, thanks for sharing Ruger's story.
